a journey “Meta Post”
The post that that will appear next has been very difficult for me to write. I wrote most of it over a week ago, but I could not finish it because of a gnawing awareness that something was missing. When I realized what I had left out, it became an additional lesson for me of how deeply flawed we human beings can be, how slow we are to change, and how our assumptions and agendas can make us blind to an obvious truth. It points to a huge gap in my understanding of the Christian life, and of life itself, during a time in which I considered myself a seeker after truth and life. It reveals, instead, how I avoided some inconvenient truth about life in order to seek safety. What you read next will be a blend of the understanding I gained from C.S. Lewis in 1970 and what I have since learned—or hope I have learned—about the difference between seeking safety and seeking life.
