The Journey Continues: “God bless us, every one….”
So, it’s been many months since I’ve published a post.
If you remember, I left off with Post 33, part 3, on the risk of repeating history. I wrote a note at the end, saying that there would be a part 3-b, which “will address how we understand freedom of religion as Americans and Christians, and how we can continue to survive as one nation.” Watching the election campaign take on a circus-like atmosphere these past months has been difficult. I believe that what I have to say is more critical for us now than when I penned that note.
My new post will appear after January 1st. In the meantime, Merry Christmas to all!
The words quoted above are Tiny Tim’s joyous benediction to Dickens’ classic tale, The Christmas Carol: “God bless us, every one.” I think of his words in two ways now; one, as the prayer of blessing he intended, and second, as a cry of desperation.
I don’t often think of the words in that second sense, though it’s come up not a few times after watching the election news. Yet there is hope. We’ll talk about that in the next post as well.
